Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. A partial denture replaces some teeth; a full denture replaces all the teeth in an arch. We’ll discuss the design, appearance and support that suit your mouth.
Denture options
Acrylic dentures
Acrylic dentures have a plastic base and replacement teeth. They can be used for partial or full dentures and may be easier to adjust or add teeth to as your needs change.
Flexible dentures
Selected partial dentures can be made using a flexible material. Their suitability depends on the remaining teeth, the gap and the support needed.
Cobalt chrome dentures
These partial dentures use a metal framework to support the replacement teeth. The framework can be thinner than an acrylic base, although clasps or metal parts may be visible.
Fitting your dentures
We assess your mouth and take impressions. Further visits may be needed to check the bite and appearance before the final denture is fitted. Some adjustment is common as you get used to it. Tell us if it rubs, feels loose or affects your bite.
Looking after your dentures
Clean your dentures daily and continue cleaning any natural teeth and your gums. Remove dentures at night unless your dentist advises otherwise. We’ll explain suitable cleaning and storage for your denture material.
Your mouth can change over time, so a denture may need adjustment, relining or replacement.
Fixed alternatives
Depending on your teeth, gums and bone, a bridge or implant-supported restoration may be an alternative.
