Regular dental care is about understanding your mouth and helping you keep it healthy. Examinations check your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth. Hygiene and periodontal care focus on preventing and managing gum problems. We’ll explain what you need and agree a plan that suits you.

Dental examinations

A check-up gives us time to listen to any concerns, review your medical history and examine your teeth, gums and mouth. X-rays may be recommended where clinically necessary to help assess areas we cannot see directly.

We’ll discuss any findings, explain suitable options and give you an estimate before treatment. The interval between check-ups depends on your individual oral health and risk.

Hygiene and prevention

Hygiene care helps remove plaque and hardened deposits that are difficult to manage with home cleaning alone. We can also offer practical advice on brushing and cleaning between your teeth, tailored to your mouth and any existing dental work.

Your needs guide the frequency and type of appointment. Cosmetic stain removal, where suitable, is a separate consideration from treating gum disease.

When your gums need more care

Bleeding, swollen gums or persistent bad breath are reasons to arrange an assessment. Gum disease can also develop with few obvious symptoms, which is one reason regular examinations matter.

If we find signs of periodontal disease, we’ll explain what they mean and discuss a plan. This may involve more detailed gum measurements, cleaning below the gum line, changes to home care and follow-up to assess your response.
