Night guards & snoring appliances

Individually fitted dental appliances for tooth protection or snoring, with advice on the right option for you.

Teeth grinding and clenching

Grinding or clenching your teeth is called bruxism. It can contribute to tooth wear, chipped teeth and jaw-muscle discomfort. These symptoms can have other causes too, so an examination is a useful starting point.

A custom-made night guard or splint provides a barrier between your teeth to help protect them from damage. We offer hard and soft splints from £200; your dentist will recommend a suitable design after assessing your teeth, bite and symptoms.

A splint does not necessarily stop the grinding itself. We can discuss habits, practical self-care and whether further assessment would help.

Snoring and mandibular advancement devices

A mandibular advancement device (MAD) is a different appliance. It fits over the upper and lower teeth and holds the lower jaw slightly forward during sleep, helping to keep the airway open.

We offer laboratory-made snoring appliances from £600. They may suit adults with snoring and selected patients with diagnosed mild obstructive sleep apnoea, following appropriate dental and medical assessment. The appliance is chosen individually; an ordinary grinding guard is not a substitute.

If you have breathing pauses, gasping or choking during sleep, or troublesome daytime sleepiness, speak to your GP. A sleep-service assessment may be needed before appliance treatment.

How sleepy do you feel during the day?

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a short questionnaire about your likelihood of dozing in everyday situations. You can complete the interactive questionnaire at Asthma + Lung UK (opens in a new tab) and discuss your result with your GP or dentist.

It measures daytime sleepiness; it cannot diagnose sleep apnoea, and a low score does not rule it out.

Starting fees and your assessment

ApplianceStarting fee
Night guard / splint — hard or soft optionsFrom £200
Mandibular advancement device for snoringFrom £600

The final fee depends on the appliance recommended. We will explain the costs and what is included before you proceed.

We assess your dental and gum health, explain fitting, cleaning and review, and discuss possible discomfort or changes to your bite. Review is important to check comfort and fit; sleep apnoea treatment also needs appropriate monitoring of its effectiveness.
